Railay Beach Hotels

Staying overnight on Railay means having the beach to yourself before the day-trip boats arrive each morning, and again after they leave each evening — arguably the single best reason to base yourself here.

Railay West vs Railay East accommodation

Resorts directly on Railay West command the best beach and sunset views and price accordingly — this is where Rayavadee, one of Thailand's most famous luxury resorts, sits on its own private stretch of sand. Railay East, a short walk across the peninsula, is where the budget and mid-range guesthouses cluster, along with the bars and the main boat pier. Staying on the East side and walking to West Beach for sunset is a common, sensible compromise.

Book ahead in high season

Railay has a genuinely limited number of rooms — there's no room to build more. December through February, especially over Christmas and New Year, resorts sell out weeks in advance.

Budget considerations

Because everything (food, building materials, staff) arrives by boat, Railay generally runs 10–20% more expensive than equivalent standard rooms in Ao Nang. Budget guesthouses on Railay East are the exception and remain reasonably priced.

What you give up

Restaurant and shop variety is limited compared with Ao Nang, and prices for food and drinks are higher across the board. If you want nightlife beyond a handful of beach bars, or a big choice of restaurants, Ao Nang or Krabi Town will suit better.
