Krabi Town

Most itineraries treat Krabi Town as a place to land and leave — a mistake, given the food, the riverside walk, and how close the temples actually are.

What's actually here

Krabi Town sits on the Krabi River, a short walk from the pier where longtail boats leave for Railay and the islands. Beyond transport, its real draw is the night market, a relaxed riverside walking street, and being the closest base to Tiger Cave Temple, roughly 15–20 minutes away.

A half-day in town

  • Morning: climb (or skip) Tiger Cave Temple, 15 minutes north of town.
  • Midday: wander the riverside promenade and the fishermen's pier.
  • Evening: night market for dinner, then a sunset river walk back.

Why base here instead of Ao Nang

Lower accommodation prices, better and cheaper food, and it's the transport hub for onward travel — buses, the airport, and boats to the islands all originate or pass through here. The trade-off is no beach on your doorstep; see our Krabi Town hotels guide for who it suits.
