Getting to Krabi

Krabi has its own international airport, which makes it one of the easier parts of southern Thailand to reach directly — but it's worth knowing the alternatives if you're already island-hopping.

By air — Krabi International Airport (KBV)

The most straightforward option for most travellers. Krabi Airport has regular domestic flights from Bangkok (both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes), plus seasonal direct international flights from several Asian and European hubs during peak season (roughly November–March). From the airport, it's about 15 minutes to Krabi Town or 30–40 minutes to Ao Nang by taxi or pre-booked transfer.

Via Phuket

If you're already on Phuket, or find cheaper flights there, a taxi or minivan to Ao Nang takes around 2.5–3 hours by road across the Sarasin Bridge. Minivan transfers are the budget option and run regularly through the day; private taxis cost more but go door to door without stops.

By bus or train from Bangkok

Overnight VIP buses from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal to Krabi take around 11–12 hours — a genuine option for budget travellers or those combining Krabi with other stops, but a long way to travel when direct flights exist for a similar or lower cost once time is factored in. There's no direct train; the nearest railhead is Surat Thani, connected onward by bus or minivan.

By ferry from nearby islands

If you're coming from Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, or Koh Lipe, ferries run daily (seasonally reduced or suspended in the depths of the May–October monsoon on some routes) into Krabi's Ao Nang pier or Krabi Town pier. See our Krabi to Koh Lanta guide for exact timings on that specific route.
