The hike itself
The trail runs roughly 3.7km each way through rainforest, gaining a steady, moderate incline with some steeper, rocky sections near the top. Most hikers take 1.5–2 hours up and about an hour back down. It's unshaded on the final ridge, which is exactly where the views open up — plan your timing so you're on that stretch early rather than at midday.
Why sunrise
Starting before dawn (gates typically open around 6am) means cooler hiking temperatures, softer light for photos, and a real chance of having the ridge to yourself before day-tour groups arrive mid-morning.
What to bring
- At least 1.5 litres of water — there are no vendors on the trail.
- A headlamp or phone torch if starting before sunrise.
- Proper shoes; the summit section has loose rock and exposed roots.
- Cash for the small park entry fee (typically 100–200 THB).
Getting there
The trailhead is around 20 minutes from Ao Nang by scooter or taxi, inside Hat Nopparat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. There's no public transport directly to the trailhead, so a rented scooter, taxi, or hotel-arranged transfer is the usual approach.
