Thailand's Ministry of Transport is moving ahead with plans for a seaplane service connecting Krabi and Phuket, with the Deputy Transport Minister visiting Krabi International Airport to review preparations with representatives from both provinces. The service is planned as a pilot project, with officials framing it as a way to ease pressure on the existing road and ferry routes between the two destinations during peak season.
Why it matters
Right now, getting between Krabi and Phuket means a 2–3 hour overland trip or a similarly timed ferry crossing (see our Krabi to Phuket transport guide for current options). A seaplane service — landing on water near both destinations rather than requiring a full airport transfer — could cut that considerably, though as of this writing no confirmed launch date, route frequency, or pricing has been announced.
